Livable Seattle on Green Density Some city planners and others are trying to sell Seattle the idea that replacing what we have with even more density than currently planned is an important component of keeping Puget Sound alive, and our entire planet green. But with our City’s tree cover dropping dramatically over the last few years and an increasing amount of density taking the form of lot-line-to-lot-line buildings with no permeable surface, many Seattleites are asking how we can have our density cake and eat our greens too. Replacing trees and ground which naturally absorbing water flows with unproven “high-tech” replacements may actually reduce our ability to handle the consequences of global warming, such as heavier stormwater. As we increasingly see big trees in our neighborhoods replaced by big townhomes, many of us fundamentally understand something needs to change. The publications below represent ideas on the subject.
